There was a post in the Facebook group, and it was Emerson. And Emerson was asking, "I'm, I'm working on my goals for next year, and I wanna know, like, by what percentage should I grow for the following year?" Would you agree with me, Emerson? Was that your question?

Yes, it was. Gorgeous. Okay, cool. So my tea, as far as setting goals and numbers overall, is that there needs to be a reason for you setting the goal or the number.

So it should never be, like, "What should my growth be?" Right? It should never be like, um, "What should my new client retention rate be?" Right?

By somebody else's standards. They have to be from your own standards, because screw what everybody else's benchmark is for you. It only matters what you want in your life and what you're trying to achieve when you are setting goals. So I created this very simple little framework for y'all to make it as easy as possible for you to set goals that are aligned with why you would want to hit this goal, okay?

Versus just somebody else telling you that that's what you should have. So number one, you wanna clearly define what you actually want in your life, right? Like, do you wanna buy a house? Do you wanna buy a car?

Do you want to work only three days a week? Do you wanna spend more time with your family? Whatever it may be, you have to define what you actually want, okay? And that is where we start.

That is the beginning. And without that, you can't make any goals, because you don't even know what you're trying to achieve. Then number two, you figure out how does your business align with what you want in your life? And you reflect on how your business supports your goals, whether it's through your schedule, your income, overall fulfillment, et cetera, et cetera.

And then number three, you figure out what actions or achievements are needed in order for your business to offer you what you want in your life. So identify the specific actions and achievements needed in your business to create the schedule or earn the income or find satisfaction. Then figure out what goals are you actually going to set, or the key metrics. And then finally, you need to have a plan for how you're going to make it happen, right?

And you should put due dates on those things. You should chart them out quarter by quarter, month by month. That's what we just did in our mastermind, in our high-level mastermind with all of our members. And that makes it so you have a goal, the goal makes sense for what you actually want, and there's a reason for it other than just somebody else told you that's what it should be, and then you actually have a plan to make it happen.

Right? So an example is, I want, in life, to not have to work. This is not my example, but let's just say it was. To not have to work as much outside of doing hair, so I can spend more time with my family.

That's what I want in my overall life for 2025. Your business affects this, because you having to do social media to grow your clientele is something that you have to do outside of your working hours, which takes away from spending more time with your family, right? So you figure out what actions or achievements are needed to make it so you have more time back into your personal life, and you can delegate this or whatever it may be. The action is you hire a social media manager for $600 a month.

What goal do you need to set to be able to afford that, right? So make $200 in retail sales and add-ons per week to afford a social media manager, and then you figure out how you're gonna do it, and you plot that out, right? So you're gonna follow a step-by-step sales strategy every client, every time. And that is how we set goals and how we create action for them and how we start with figuring out what that number actually is.

So going back to the original question, which is, I have only been in business for two years. I'm planning out my goals for my following year. I don't have much historic data of what I should go off of as far as what my goals should be for how much I grow this next year. What should my number be?

The number should be whatever you want it to be to be able to achieve what you want in your life. However much money that you wanna make to be able to afford whatever it may be. Right? And with that being said, the goals should feel scary but achievable, IMO.

They should challenge you a little bit. They should not be impossible though, all right? Like, you should be able to feel like you are able to get them if you are willing to get uncomfortable, if you're willing to work your ass off, if, if whatever it may be. They should make you a little bit uncomfortable, but they should still feel like you can make it happen.

All right? I also think it's important, of course, to track your numbers. I've talked about this before. To track your numbers, understand your numbers, be able to pull your numbers if you can, right?

But when we are goal-setting for the entire year, I think it's very important to take only a small amount of numbers of KPIs and like go 100% in on all of them. You wanna focus on the things that are gonna make the most impact in your goals that you're making. So for example, I have our, our, our, our, our handful of our students who are in masterminds, right? This is the, the high-level program that is brand-new.

This is the first cohort that we're doing, and these people are doing insane numbers in their business, and they're fucking badasses. And we aren't planning out every single KPI and setting a goal for every single KPI in their business. We're focusing on like three main KPIs and going all in on each of them. So I'm not saying, like, to not track the other ones or to not care about the other ones, but I am saying that you wanna give your 100% focus to the main KPIs that are gonna make the biggest difference in relation to the specific goals that you are trying to achieve.

And so my last thing that I will leave you with is that your path and the way that you set goals isn't about anyone else's shoulds or shouldn'ts. It's about your vision and the goals that you choose to chase. Period.
